Do you know what the main characteristics of narrative writing are?

The academic universe, in addition to introducing new terms and ideas such as CBT, monographs, scientific articles and the like, also brings terms that we already know, but often we do not pay attention or let it go unnoticed. Narrative writing is one of them. Below you will be able to check everything that is necessary to produce with the necessary quality.

Defining Narrative Writing

This type of writing is characterized by necessarily contain a plot with characters and actions that happen in a certain time and space. Of course, nothing needs to be true, but writing requires this coherence to be considered narrative.

There is a lot of difference from descriptive narration that focuses on describing the aspects of a given object (understand by object any scenario, person, situation and etc., not necessarily material and objective, but also psychological and subjective). Elements of Narrative: see what types, what to use and the characteristics of each one

The classic narrative narrative focuses on the argumentative aspect, where you must create an order of presentation of coherent facts and ideas to be able to lecture and expose your point of view in the most impersonal way possible.

From this point, when constructing a narrative essay with quality, one must attend to many items; You can check all that is needed below:

1. Try to build everything consistently

Disconnected and meaningless facts, script mistakes, characters without personality, etc. All of this contributes to poor narrative writing. Everything, even in a universe that is not real, must be constructed objectively and truthfully.

The difference between truthful and true can help you improve the quality of your writing. The real is something concrete and real, like “men can not fly”. The truthful is something that is true within a given context, for example “Superman can fly.” Yes he can fly, but he is not real. The situation is only real within the universe of Superman and this is the definition of truthful. That which is only real within a certain universe.

Be consistent as far as possible. If it is a fictitious narration, try to develop everything so that it is true and consistent with your own presented ideas. To do so, create dependent factors and related situations. Do not leave loose ends.

2. Work the Depth of Narrative

Characters without personality is the worst thing that can happen. Character and personality are derived from persona, which indicates just the mask, the characteristics, a character, a personality. Construct this coherently in your narration.

If your character has a more agitated personality, nor need to describe, as long as you make it clear in your attitudes and how you deal with the facts. This holds true for the scenarios and the whole development of the narrative.

3. It must have beginning, middle and end

This is mandatory in any narrative essay, in addition to complementing the previous items. It must have its development in a coherent way and even if it is different, (like showing the end at the beginning and getting off the hook) you should do it in the most objective and well-constructed way possible.

4. Mandatory Elements in Narrative Writing

When developing narrative writing, be aware that some elements are required. You can check them out below:

Narrator, after all is called narrative precisely for this reason. There are several types of narrators

Characters, who are the ones who will participate in the plot and the story in the given time and space

Plot, that is the fact, what happened, is happening and will happen, history

Space and time, since everything must happen somewhere and at some period, even if fictitious

The plot that differs in the plot for being the practical part and the development, here arise the conflicts

Climax, which is the peak period in history. There may be more than one

Resolution, also called an outcome, outcome or conclusion that is when the climax and conflicts are resolved

Remembering that you can make the model different from the narrative and even if the resolution does not have the best of the finals, it should still make it very clear if everything is over or not. There is the possibility of open and interpretive endings.

When it comes to conflict, it does not necessarily have to be something negative or fanciful in the narration. It’s simply a situation that needs to be resolved, or a certain point to which the characters need to come in some way.

You can process everything with softer, softer or more tense themes, but that’s up to you and your context. You also work out the finals issue. It is possible to experiment and leave quite a lot of the conventional, but it needs to have the basis and structure to have the main characteristics of a narrative writing.

5. What are the types of narrator?

The 3 types of narrator are:

Narrator-character, who participates in history and everything happens from his point of view. Here the narration is in the first person.

Narrator-observer, who observes the facts and reports without interfering. Here the narration is in the third person.

Narrator-omniscient, is equal to the observer narrator, but is fully aware of what happens throughout the plot, including the thoughts of the characters, simultaneous events, etc. It’s also in the third person.

Do types of essay mix?

Although it is not the main purpose of the text to comment on the other types of writing, know that it is very common that they have two or more types of writing and other genres included in a single situation, for example, when it comes to a narration, but there is the description of objects or people, the narrative and descriptive writing have already mixed.

Although this always happens, it is common for one to always prevail, but it is important to recognize that the text may be narrative, but with characteristics of other types. And this holds true for all genres and textual types, not just for essays.
